Doodle Information

A Labradoodle is a deliberate and planned cross between a Standard Poodle and a Labrador, NOT an unplanned mating.
The breed was originally started by Wally Cochran in 1988, he realised the need for a guide dog for a partially sighted lady whos husband suffered with dog allergies.
Labradoodles come in 3 different types of coat, these are straight/wavy, Fleece and curly. (See Doodle Coats page for more info.)
In certain coat types the Labradoodle has reduced coat shedding and very little body odour, although, this is not always the case as some still shed in ANY of the 3 coat types. TRUE Fleece and Wool Coats.. Ideally Should Not Shed.
Labradoodles are great family orientated dogs and love humans, other dogs and tend to love water too!!! Life expectancy of the Doodle is 13-15 yrs...which is brilliant for a large dog!!
They are highly intelligent dogs and love to please you, although they do tend to be quite exhuberant. They are very like the poodle in nature and tend to be strong willed and need fairly early disipline right from the start.
Originally bred as guide dogs for the blind, but are now better known for their loving nature, great character and gorgeous looks!
Over popularity is the downfall of many new breeds as you get disconcerning pet owners breeding to a supply and demand trade without a thought of the harm they are doing to genuine Labradoodle breeders and owners, and to the outcome of the breed in general. People judge the breeders and dogs without actually knowing the facts. Breeding stock should ALWAYS be health tested.
F1 generation Labradoodles although necessary for the breed, do tend to waver towards the Labrador type. Disconcerning breeders do not make new owners aware of this, new owners of early gens are expecting a fully fledged curly long haired labradoodle, which they then find is dissapointing and misleading about
the Labradoodles overall appearance.
An ALLERGY FRIENDLY Labradoodle can NEVER be guaranteed!!
